Gum Disease Therapy

It's the leading reason that American adults lose teeth, and it's been associated with increased risk for heart disease, strokes, diabetes complications, low birth weight, Alzheimer's, dementia, osteoporosis, and other serious health issues. Periodontal disease, commonly called gum disease, is a progressive disease that can negatively affect your overall health. It's hard to believe that plaque can cause such severe problems.

In the earliest stage, gum disease has few, sometimes no, symptoms. You may notice a little redness, swelling, tenderness, or bleeding when you brush your teeth. Nothing to be worried about, right? Actually, if you have gingivitis - the early stage of gum disease - and you leave it untreated, it could advance before you know it.

To keep your gums healthy and disease free, you should visit our hygienist twice a year. She'll clean your teeth, check for gum disease and oral cancer, and teach you how to make the most of your daily oral hygiene at home.

If you have gum disease, we may recommend a deep cleaning, which involves scaling, root planing, and sometimes, antibiotic therapy. For advanced gum disease, called periodontitis, we may use laser dentistry or refer you to a trusted periodontist who can provide specialized care to return your gums to proper health.
